A 40ft yacht with 7 people aboard needed urgent assistance after going aground off Gurnard in a fresh south-westerly this afternoon (Friday).
Steering loss led to the ocean racer’s predicament around 100m off the shore, which ultimately led to the launch of Cowes RNLI lifeboat.
After hitting the water at 13:20, the lifeboat made progress to the scene of the emergency.
The volunteer lifeboat crew decided that, with the yacht firmly aground and anchored, the best option was to wait 20 minutes or so for it to refloat with the incoming tide.
Eventually, the yacht was given an alongside tow to Trinity Landing, Cowes.
Very bad luck for a second year running, or is there an issue with maintenance, or the Crew?
Totally bad maintenance on the owners part, two years on the trot, go and fix your boat properly.
