Police, fire and ambulance crews are responding to a dramatic crash on the outskirts of Wootton which has seen a vehicle career off the road, trapping its occupants.
Briddlesford Road has been closed in both directions this evening (Monday) as a result of a 2-car crash, with 1 of the vehicles ending up on its side in a field.
Island Echo understands that a white Skoda Yeti has sustained front end damage after pulling out into an oncoming Citroen C4 Picasso, thought to have been travelling south towards Downend.
Emergency services were alerted to the smash, at the junction with Combley Road, at just before 18:15.
2 fire appliances from Ryde and Newport are on scene, alongside multiple resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police have closed Briddlesford Road in both directions. Access from Havenstreet to Briddlesford Road is still possible, with all traffic forced left towards Downend.
UPDATE @ 18:57 – All those involved in this evening’s crash are now being tended to by paramedics.
No life-threatening or life-changing injuries have been sustained.
No impairments – such as drink or drugs – have been identified.
Recovery has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen shortly.
UPDATE – The road has now reopened.

Briddlesford Road, one of the islands most
dangerous roads.
Thankfully.everyone is ok
Yes it is, just like lots of others and it’s never going to change until the police start prosecuting poor and slow drivers. For years they keep blaming speeding and they set up speed traps, reduced road speed and end up with the same results… Concentrate on bad and slow drivers and you will see .
Some idiot pulled out of Comberly road. What as that to do with any of the absolute drivel you have written.
Comes under poor driving
If it upset you when you read it, you must be one of those poor / slow drivers.
How else could they get omto Comberly Road , Drivers on Main roads should slow down , Blind Side roads on the Island are an accident waiting to happen
There are too many numpties on our roads.
Bad driving obviously, didn’t you read what I said?
Time for speed cameras and speed humps to
be installed along roads like Briddlesford Road.
See it’s people like you that are the problem… The island had speed cameras and speed traps and it mad VERY if any difference, tackle the poor and slow drivers the problem will be solved. Even traffic police have said that.
If you will insist on driving like you’re in GTA…
FAFO
More utter shit driving on the island.at least safe for the rest of us.
No one seems to know what giveway markings
are for.
“Time for numpties to take a re-test”
I suggest many Islanders take a test in
Pompey or Soton, it will make better drivers
of them.
Lol
If it’s that short section of road, I am not surprised and isn’t the first time. You CANNOT see to the right clearly to exit if heading to the tip. You have to listen for traffic as opposed to see, pull out and really put your foot down, just in case. I will not exit onto Briddlesford using this stretch, only enter.
As there is another safer exit at the end of Combley Rd which you can clearly see in both directions, why not make the SMALLER ROAD A NO ENTRY OFF COMBLEY ROAD. SAFE SIMPLE CHEAP SUGGESTION.
Unknown why there are no STOP signs at junctions like this across the Island… drivers do not stop to look and think…if that was a biker…being hit…no chance…
