Bishop Erik Varden will be visiting Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight later this month for a series of events. Erik Varden is a monk and bishop, born in Norway in 1974. In 2002, after 10 years at the University of Cambridge, he joined Mount Saint Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire, where he was elected abbot. Pope Francis named him Bishop of Trondheim in 2019. On Friday 28th June, Bishop Varden will be giving an after-dinner speech at the Abbey’s Supper and Charity Auction, which gets underway at 18:00. The following day, Saturday 29th June, the Bishop will be signing his acclaimed books – The Shattering of Loneliness, Entering the Twofold Mystery and Chastity – at Quarr Abbey Bookshop at 11:00. There is no need to book, simply turn up on the day. ‘An audience with’ event is to be held on Monday 1st July at 10:30, where Erik will be giving a talk entitled ‘Can literature save lives?
