UPDATED: Multiple police and ambulance crews have responded to an incident in Gurnard this evening (Thursday), which has involved at least 1 person being rushed to hospital under Police escort.
Several Police vehicles and ambulances responded to The Avenue off Worsley Road at around 16:20 and by 17:05 rushed in the opposite direction towards Newport.
According to several reports, the ambulance was being given a Police escort all the way to St Mary’s Hospital.
4 Police vehicles remain at the initial scene in Gurnard, although the circumstances behind the alert remain unclear. No cordon is thought to be in place.
UPDATE @ 18:00 – Coastguard Rescue 104 has conducted a rapid medical evacuation from St Mary’s Hospital in the past 15 minutes, flying a patient to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth.
Its unclear if the 2 incidents are related at this stage.
UPDATE @ 18:14 – Police have confirmed that a woman has been taken to hospital this evening, simply stating she is ‘unwell’.
Officers remain at a property in The Avenue. It is thought Police and ambulance crews were also in attendance on the street yesterday.
UPDATE @ 20:13 – Police remain at the scene in Gurnard tonight as investigations continue.
It has been confirmed the Coastguard helicopter medivac from St Mary’s was unconnected to this incident and was the conveyance of a male cardiac patient.
UPDATE @ 22:10 – Island-based Scenes of Crime forensic investigators are at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport tonight, whilst 1 Police unit remains at The Avenue in Gurnard.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment further on the incident.
