UPDATED: A vehicle has come to rest on its roof on Smallbrook Lane in Ryde tonight, forcing the closure of the road.
A gold coloured Citoren Saxo has leaked fuel across the carriageway after overturning near to Smallbrook Stadium.
The incident, which has left the hatchback upside down and badly damaged, occurred at around 23:20.
Witnesses have told Island Echo that the driver left the scene in a silver BMW before the arrival of Police, who have closed the road in both directions.
Island Roads are on scene clearing petrol from the road.
UPDATE @ 01:10 – The Saxo has been recovered by Bartletts Service Station and the road has now reopened in both directions.
Police and Island Roads have left the scene, although investigations continue.
