UPDATED: Police have been called to Central convenience store in Ventnor this morning (Sunday) following a break in overnight.
The front door to the former Spar shop on Victoria Street is said to have been smashed in the overnight raid, which has left glass scattered over the shop floor.
It is thought those responsible for the break in may have made their escape via the nearby Pound Lane car park, where a number of smashed bottles were found surrounding a parking bay earlier this morning.
Scenes of crime investigators have been called to the scene to examine the area for forensic evidence.
The store has been closed whilst investigations and the clean up take place.
UPDATE @ 16:45 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed they are investigating the theft of an unknown quantity of alcohol from the shop.
The incident is said to have occurred sometime between 22:00 and 06:00, however Island Echo understands the break in occurred sometime after 00:15, possibly around 01:30.
