A well-established Chinese takeaway in Newport is to expand its operations by opening a second takeaway in Ryde. Loys, on Upper St James’ Street, has been serving hungry customers across the Island’s county town for decades. Now, owner Li Yatao is bringing Loys’ offering to the Island’s second largest town – Ryde – by opening up on the High Street. Plans for the new Chinese have been in the pipeline for at least 8 months, with a planning application submitted for a redesign of the extraction system in October last year. The application was only approved in March of this year. The premises to be occupied used to be the O2 phone shop and then Phones 4 U before transforming into Murphy’s Deli and more recently ‘So… Yummy’. Exterior signage has gone up this week suggesting an opening is imminent. The new takeaway will compete with the likes of Bizzy Wok, Lucky House, China Garden and Hong Kong Express. However, TripAdvisor doesn’t rate Loys in Newport very favourably with a 2.0 rating and reviews such as ‘overpriced, lukewarm food’, ‘poor performance with better options nearby’ and ‘do not order food from here’.

Please say you will deliver to bembridge when I lived in newport it was my go to never had a bad one lived their for years.
Much better when it was Choys many moons ago had one from loys for the first and last time couple of years ago not for me I’m afraid
Makes a change from a nail bar,a barbers or a charity shop!.which is what ryde high street seems to be. !!!!
Nothing wrong with loys. Never had a problem! One of my favourites.
Surely it should be ROYS !!
Why should it be Roy’s? Is this a lame attempt at a racist joke?
Good luck in your new venture, always had excellent food and service from him in Newport
I think it’s great. I eat there every day.
I wouldn’t to clean your cage out if that is the case.
What an absolutely awful write up, Island Echo. Promote a new business in one breath, and then completely slate their existing business in the final sentence, having already highlighted the competition they’re facing in the preceding sentence! If they’ve been in business for so many decades, in Newport, they must have many happy customers. Let’s hope the Ryde community at least give them a chance, after you’ve slaughtered them before they’ve even opened!
Absolutely love loys! Never had bad or lukewarm food, nothing wrong with the pricing either. Salt and pepper chilli chips and shredded chicken is SO good!
Sounds like the height of haute cuisine. Do you eat from a trough or a bucket?
Neither, you pretentious ponce. I don’t go around mocking random strangers comments either. Have the day you deserve.
Much better value to purchase Mayflower curries from
Supermarkets
I hope they get their money back from the sign installer. Not straight, unequal spacing, terrible job.
Love Loys. Been using them for years. Now I’m in ryde it’s a perfect location. Good luck.
