Newport IW Football Club’s Under 17s squad won the Mid Solent Junior B Cup on Saturday, beating Havant & Waterlooville 5-4 on penalties after the game finished 2-2 after a competitive 90 minutes.
The Island side found themselves 2-0 down at half time, but came out stronger in the second half and pulled a goal back through substitute Adrian Voigt.
With 3 minutes remaining Newport found an equalizer through Harry Cheek after a scramble in the 6 yard box forced the game into a penalty shootout. In the shootout goalkeeper Fraser Law saved 1 and Havant missed 1, meaning that Harry Cheek had to score to win the cup for Newport. Harry calmly placed his effort into the corner, to win the penalty shootout 5-4.
