2 of the Isle of Wight’s Wessex League clubs will start their pre-season campaigns this Saturday (11th July).
The Yachtsmen’s first pre-season fixture will be against Southern League Winchester City at Westwood Park, whilst Newport face the strong Wessex Premier League side, Baffins Milton Rovers, in their first game at Smallbrook Stadium. Kick-off for both games is at 15:00.
Today (Friday) will also see the draw for the FA Vase and FA Cup competitions. Cowes Sports will be the Isle of Wight’s only representatives in England’s premier cup competition, the FA Cup, with their first fixture to be played on 7th August. However, both Cowes and East Cowes Vics will be in the draw for this year’s FA Vase.
Newport are not eligible for this year’s competition having missed the 31st March deadline for entry.
On Sunday, a charity match will be held at Westwood Park, Cowes between teachers at Isle of Wight Primary and Secondary Schools. Proceeds from the game will be donated to the Wight Brainy Bunch. Kick-off is at 11:00 and the cost of entry is £3 for adults and £1 for children.

The Yachtsmen begin their Wessex Premier League campaign away to Moneyfields on 3rd August.
Newport (IW): 10th July Baffins Milton Rovers (home); 17th July West Wight (at Cowes Enterprise College); 21st July Shanklin (away); 24th July East Preston (home); 31st July Paulsgrove (away).
The Port begin their Wessex League 1 campaign at home to Romsey on 7th August.
East Cowes Vics: 13th July West Wight (home); 17th July Brockenhurst (home); 20th July 20 Whitecroft & Barton (home); 24th July Lymington (home); 27th July Brading (home); 31st July Wareham (away); 3rd August Shanklin.
Vics begin their campaign in Wessex League 1 at home to Infinity on 7th August.
