The Royal British Legion has been handed a cheque for £547 thanks to the efforts of members of Newport Golf Club.
These monies were raised at the annual Tommy Trophy event and raffle, which is held to commemorate and say thank you for the sacrifices made by all service personnel to protecting the values of our great country.
The Tommy Trophy was played from a drawn 4 team Texas scramble called ’Pal’s Battalions’. 14 teams entered this year. The raffle raised £320 towards the total handed over to the RBL.
20x 3ft high metal Tommy’s were placed in and around the course to help those playing to ‘remember’.
The Royal British Legion has received £20,000 so far in this year’s Poppy Appeal, according to RBL’s Chairperson Mr Ernie Howard. Ernie has said it takes 4 months to organise the Poppy Appeal which lasts 2 weeks.
Ernie has requested that more volunteers come forward to assist the local RBLs on the Island. Ernie has himself served 55 years.
If you would like to help/volunteer with the RBL, then contact Ernie on 01983 296572.
