A new fish and chip shop has opened on Ryde Esplanade, which is proving a hit with locals and tourists alike.
Esplanade Fish Bar opened in July and the team there say that it has enjoyed great success so far with enthusiastic reviews for the fresh food and generous portions.
The chips are made fresh from local potatoes and the fish is delivered 5 days a week.
There is plenty of seating with 12 seats outdoors and 14 inside if the weather is bad, which could prove handy as the team plans to keep it open all year round.
Given their successful start, Esplanade Fish Bar is now recruiting for further staff and is planning to start a delivery service to local residents in Ryde.

Very over priced. £3 for a measly few chips.
Are you the owner of the cod father lol
can tell you work at codfather mush
An english seaside resort should have an abundance of chippys.Looks great as well.Hope they do well.
Shame they moved the public seating with WCs away from the beach, pier and sea view and built a two lane road through it.
Still they can scoff their chips on the new seats and look at the dilapadted train station and 10million pound bus station.Or if they want climb the stairs and look at the crumbling close Ice rink..what fun!
You can’t beat Codfather. They’ve been our go to for years. Great food. Chips are perfectly made and reasonably priced. Fast delivery too. Well done Coddy
Some of the worst chips iv ever had.
You must have very low standards
They’ve never been particularly good but i’d rather chip there than the tacky looking new place in an emergency hunger scenario.Wights further up Union st are fairly classy although it’s getting less affordable these days alas ?
The chips the godfather use come in pre cut and frozen, the food is horrible, the owner once cooked me a large cod, we got home and it was frozen in the middle and my partner was 5months pregnant so your better off avoiding Codfather completely
You bl***y well can… I’ve had food poisoning from there, it’s bl***y ridiculous. You must have an iron gut. Or good plumbing… Best chips on the Island are either Happy Haddock in Shanklin, Carisbrooke fish bar, or Ozze’s on Pan.
Does anyone know why the Happy Haddock in Sandown and Shanklin are closed?
codfather is whack
How come they were allowed to move right next door to another , thought there were rules?
Competition is good for all businesses,if you can’t stand the heat move out of the kitchen.
They obviously think that they’re good and can spot opportunities that the other Fish & Chip shops aren’t doing.
if they’re there in a years time then they must be doing something right if not then the other Fish & Chip shop is better, but for now we’re going to see who is best.
Exactly. Who in their right mind opens a fish and chip shop next to a fish and chip shop? Sounds weird but looks insane.
Where did you read these ‘rules’?
As long as the premises has an A5 license, it’s OK. Just like there’s nothing to stop someone opening a clothes shop next to another, same with restaurants or take-aways.
Councils can have a policy to limit the number of take-aways in a certain area, for example 15% of the units in a certain zone.
Talk about brazen.Right next door to one of the islands oldest chippies.
Codfather much cheaper.
Personally I prefer Whites, worth the walk.
So many Plaices to choose from.
Another over price so called fish and chip shop on this shit hole island.
They won’t be getting my hard earned money, f the lot of them.
Head for ferry or Fast Cat then Jim, The Island can safely y manage itself without wallys like you… Bless your challenged brain.
Samels in east cowes are the worst chips on the island ….by a looong way …never had a decent portion yet …just all small bits …
I love how they sell the chips as local potatoes when theres no where near enough potatoes grown on the island to sustain this chippy lol
Went in to eat here for the 1st time the other day, yes it is more than next door, but the food was better than I was expecting, very tasty chips, the battered sausage was excellent, my son had nuggets, they were very tasty as was the curry sauce – the only negative is that I would expect a few more chips for the price paid – that being said, my wasteline would probably appreciate the smaller size. All in all very tasty – would go back again and recommend to others too
Went there yesterday with my eldest and bought a bag from each chippy. We each tried both and decided Esplanade made marginally the better chips, although both were pretty bad to be honest. They both tasted like the oil needs replacing. But really there are no good chip shops on the island. All crap. The absolute worst is Ocean View in Ventnor, which produces unspeakably bad chips and the owner doesn’t take constructive feedback well.
