NEARLY £500 RAISED AT FRESHWATER BAY GOLF CLUB’S ANNUAL CAPTAINS’ DRIVE-IN

The newly-elected Club Captain, Lady Captain and Seniors Captain were traditionally welcomed into office at Freshwater Bay Golf Club’s annual Captains’ Drive-In last weekend.  The successful event saw over £470 raised for the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat – the Captain’s Charity for 2024 gave a presentation to members about the work the charity undertakes. Founded by local members of the community in 1972, the Freshwater Lifeboat Station is owned and operated by the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and is located in the village of Freshwater. The organisation operates 2 lifeboats and is on call to the Coast Guard 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The lifeboat station covers an area up to 30 miles offshore from Hurst Point to St Catherine’s Point. The service is not part of the RNLI and does not receive funding from the RNLI or the government. Operations are entirely funded by the local community via a mix of donations, local business sponsorship, and local community grants. Braving the howling winds of storm Isha an enthusiastic crowd of members and guests watched the Captains strike the ceremonial shots and the winners of the ‘nearest peg’ competition were Linda Bell, Paula Burke and Matt Somerfield, who all correctly guessed where the Captain’s drive would land.
