Commercial radio station Nation has teamed up with Angel Radio Isle of Wight to apply for a small-scale DAB digital radio multiplex licence from Ofcom. If the application is successful, it will enable radio stations to broadcast to just the Isle of Wight on DAB digital radio for the first time. The Isle of Wight application is a venture between local FM broadcaster Nation – seen by many as the Wave 105 replacement – and Isle of Wight FM broadcaster Angel Radio Isle of Wight. It comes after Isle of Wight Radio and Vectis Radio announced their partnership in May of this year, as they too are applying for a DAB licence. Chris and Bev Webster, Managers of Angel Radio Isle of Wight, have said:
“As the Island’s oldest Ofcom licensed community radio station, we have seen the good that radio can do to serve the community, especially underserved members of the older generation. “We know that many of our listeners now have DAB radios and we want to be able to reach them and we look forward to a digital future for our station. “Teaming with Nation makes good sense for us as they are a commercial operator that cares about community radio.”
Jason Bryant, Executive Chairman of Nation Broadcasting, adds:
“Nation has been involved in small scale DAB right from the early days of the Ofcom trials, from running multiplexes to backing them with our own services and deploying world leading technology through our DAB multiplex business Factum Radioscape. “Nation has a proven track record in supporting broadcasters, both commercial and non-profit in achieving access to DAB digital radio, and I am excited for the opportunity for Nation to lead on DAB digital radio development in the Isle of Wight.”

Great news, Angel is a fabulous relaxing station.
We don’t need ever more wireless channels. Just decent DJ’s like Blackburn, Wogan, Young, etc. Now have to even have an ethnic on radio 2. Seems all tick boxes must be filled by the BBC no matter what the listeners prefer.
IW radio is good, but the news is often days behind that of the Echo. So well done guys must take some doing to get news to us all the speed you do.
