The identity of a body found in the sea off the Isle of Wight remains a mystery, with Police still trying to work out who the deceased is some 4 months on.
It was on 8th January this year that the cross-Channel Brittany Ferry ‘Cotentin’ reported to HM Coastguard that they had sighted an object in the water around 10 miles South East of Bembridge.
Bembridge RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter were tasked to the scene, locating a body in the water at around 18:20.
The body – which is yet to be confirmed as being male or female – was taken to Bembridge, where Police were waiting.
For the past 4 months, investigations have been taking place to ascertain the identity of the person and how they came to be in the water.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the identity remains unknown at this time and that enquiries continue.
The death is being treated as unexplained.

The technology we have nowadays and they still can’t work out if it’s male or female 4 months on. Are they actually trying to work out who it is or can they not be bothered
Who knows how long that body has been in the sea? Water damage, and in all likelihood nibbled on by fish, etc…..would make it extremely difficult to identify. I’m quite sure they would also be working with experts on currents and tides to try and figure out how far the body might have travelled and where from, taking into consideration the decomposition of the body and the length of time it’s been in the water. Very scientific. So why post such a negative comment?
Any viable DNA will show whether the body is male or female. If there are sufficient remains to be recovered there will be sufficient DNA.
There are also skeletal differences.
They know the sex of the body but have some reason not to make this information public.
Do bear in mind, that even if it has a penis it could still be a woman. It’s not as easy to tell as it used to be…
So sad. Surely must know by now what gender and rough age, ethnicity by now. That would be a good starting place. Clothes ? Somebody’s loved one.

With the currents of the sea, the body could have been deposited or opted to go in and drown anywhere along the Southern Coast of UK.
