UPDATED: Multiple vehicles have collided on Medina Way in Newport this afternoon leading to long tailbacks in the area.
The collision, involving at least three vehicles, has occurred on the exit of the slip road on the southbound carriageway heading towards Coppins Bridge.
Non-FBU Firefighters, who are not on strike, are currently in attendance at the scene.
Traffic is backed up to St Mary’s Hospital. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
UPDATE @ 14:40 – Medina Way has been closed by Police in a southbound direction.
A second, less serious road traffic collision has occurred outside the IIVT 6th form campus at the top of Upper St James Street, Newport.
UPDATE @ 15:12 – At least one person has been cut free from the wreckage of a Ford Fiesta this afternoon.
The dual carriageway has now reopened, however traffic remains heavy on both northbound and southbound carriageways and on Coppins Bridge. Traffic is backed up past St Mary’s Hospital.
It is understood the collision occurred just moments after the funeral cars and traction engines for Joe Elliis’ funeral passed down the southbound carriageway.
