A 50-year-old motorcyclist has this afternoon (Sunday) been airlifted to a hospital following a road traffic collision in Ventnor, as reported via Twitter.
The male rider was involved in a collision with a Ford Galaxy at the junction of Zig Zag Road and Ocean View Road shortly before 17:10, resulting in the temporary closure of the road and diversions for motorists and local buses.
Due to the serious injuries sustained, the assistance of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was requested by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and the rider has been airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries and complaining of chest pains.
Several Police units, an ambulance and a rapid response paramedic were called to the scene. The air ambulance arrived at the incident at just gone 18:00, taking off again less than 40 minutes later.
The road was re-opened by 19:00.
