The Isle of Wight had two goalkeepers – Stuart and Simon Moore – starring in the English Championship this Saturday (October 2nd). Both brothers – who were born in Lake – started their careers with Island League side, Brading Town.
Simon, 31, who has made the Coventry City goalkeeping shirt his own this season, featured between the sticks in the Sky Blues 4-1 home victory against Fulham. The older Moore brother was unable to prevent Coventry defender McFadzean from heading into his own goal to give Fulham a 1st half lead. However, before the half-time break, Simon stretched full-length to prevent Fulham’s Bobby Decordova-Reid from grabbing a 2nd for the away side.
The Sky Blues went on to win the game 4-1 with 2nd half goals from Viktor Gyokeres (2), Matt Godden and Ian Maatsen. Coventry’s win leaves them in 3rd place in the Championship table, 1 place below the automatic promotion slots.
Meanwhile, Simon’s brother Stuart, 27, came on as a 2nd-half substitute in Blackpool’s 2-1 derby win against Blackburn at Bloomfield Road, after 1st choice goalkeeper, Chris Maxwell, had been forced to leave the field of play injured. Stuart performed well between the sticks, denying Blackpool an equalizer 6 minutes into stoppage time, when he tipped away a looping header from Tyrhys Dolan.
Blackpool’s victory leaves them in 12th place in the Championship table. Let’s hope Stuart’s promising performance leads to an extended run in the 1st team.
