It was a mixed weekend for the Isle of Wight Hockey Club across the various age groups and genders.
Lets start with Our Ladies 1XI who hosted Basingstoke 4XI at home.
After Basingstoke lead 1-0 at half time, the Island-side equalised shortly after half time through a clean Sarah Shaw Strike.
Moments later, Evie Fairhurst found Kate Ednay in the ‘D’ who swept the ball home to give the Island the lead. Their third goal came from a well practiced short corner routine which ended with Ednay finding the net for a second time! With momentum fully in their favour, Isle of Wight continued to press, and it was Evie Fairhurst’s individual skill that sealed the fourth goal.
Charging down the left once more, she drove into the D, danced around the keeper, and slotted home from a tight angle, sparking celebrations from her teammates. Basingstoke managed to find themselves another goal against the un of play, but at the final whistle it was the Island who walked away with a well-earned 4-2 victory!
