A crash on Military Road has forced the closure of the coastal route between Brook and Freshwater tonight (Monday). Emergency services are currently on scene near Compton in response to a road traffic collision. It is unknown how many vehicles have been involved and the extent of any injuries sustained. Police, fire and ambulance crews have all responded to the incident, which occurred at around 21:35. The road has been closed in both directions by Police from the junction with Brook right through to Freshwater Bay. UPDATE – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now left the scene, with appliances from Newport and Freshwater returning to their respective stations. The road is expected to re-open once recovery has been completed. UPDATE TUESDAY – It has been confirmed that a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old sustained minor injuries in last night’s single-vehicle crash, which involved a Ford Focus. 1 of the girls had to be assisted from the vehicle.
