Police are trying to locate the medals pictured so that they can be reunited with their owner, as officers investigate whether or not a local war veteran was mugged.
The medals went missing on the evening of Remembrance Sunday (13th November). The owner had left Newport Social Club at 21:30 and went to McDonald’s before then walking towards the bus station. He then travelled towards the County Showground on Newport Road.
The owner noticed the next day that their medals were missing and reported a potential robbery to Police. The owner also reported a watch missing, described as a silver Citizen Eco Drive, with a black watch face. The watch strap closes at the wrist with a clasp.
It’s possible the medals and the watch were lost, or stolen, anywhere in the Newport area between the bus station and the County Showground, and between the hours of 21:30 and 01:30.
The 5 medals that are missing are 2 Queen Jubilee medals, a Gulf war campaign medal with service number 24794852, a Saudi Arabia medal and a Kuwait medal.
Police are asking if anyone has come across these medals, or perhaps been offered sale of these medals in suspicious circumstances, to get in touch.
Anyone with information about the missing items is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44220462528.
