East Cowes man Jason Holbrook, who was caught masturbating in his van just metres from a primary school in Newport, is to be sentenced next year.
Holbrook, 50, of St James’ Close, admitted a single count of committing an act of outraging public decency when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 12th November).
Crown prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that on 29th April this year, a resident of a property on Elm Grove in Newport saw their attention drawn to a Ford Transit van parked outside their property.
A few hours later, in broad daylight, the same person noticed a man in the driver’s seat of the van masturbating with his right hand. The court heard how Holbrook had placed a towel over the passenger side window in an attempt to complete the lewd act undetected. However, the homeowner could still see him through a gap in the window and windscreen.
In a shocked and upset state, the homeowner called her partner who went to the van and confronted Holbrook about his actions.
Mrs McConnell explained to the court that Holbrook then ripped the towel from the window and removed his phone from the steering wheel just before a ‘young male’ walked past.
Holbrook’s attempt at ‘relief’ took place in close proximity to Nine Acres Primary School.
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that the case was one that would benefit from a pre-sentence report.
Holbrook has been bailed until 24th January 2025 when he is due before a bench at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for sentencing.
