The Isle of Wight Council has released a map showing the diversion route from Newport to Cowes during the forthcoming roadworks at Horsebridge Hill, which will get underway next Monday.
The temporary diversion will come into effect on Monday through to Friday 4th July, with works being paused, and the road re-opening both ways, for the Isle of Wight Festival.
During the roadworks, local buses will have priority and will be able to pass through the roadworks in both directions between 06:00-20:00. A crew member will be onsite to ensure that buses get through, helping commuters and school children, especially during exams, get to their destinations on time.
Between 20:00 and 06:00 Southern Vectis says it will manage potential delays diverting via Forest Road, and a shuttle bus will operate from Newport Bus Station to St Mary’s Hospital and back again after 20:00 until end of service.
Anyone wishing to get to Cowes northbound from St Mary’s to Place Road, Northwood, outside of 06:00-20:00 will need to catch a bus into Newport and change to the Cowes-bound bus at the Isle of Wight College stop.
Emergency Services will also be able to use the road network in both directions during this time.
The Isle of Wight Council will be working closely with developers to bring residents regular updates on the works as they progress. Any changes to these arrangements will be communicated via statements to the media – such as Island Echo.
The council are preparing further information in the form of a question-and-answer communication which will be available on their website with links shared on our social media pages.
A further map showing the detail around the roadworks themselves will also be released shortly.
so.. according to that map, you cannot get to the hospital from Newport ??
is it true, or are the IW council just not capable of drawing a simple map ?
Google maps are a better option
Lol
The Map is for the traffic routes from Newport to Cowes & Cowes to Newport or are you not capable of reading simple words?
If heading to Cowes there is no nead to head back towards Northwood traffic lights, just continue either all the way along Place Rd or take right into Three Gates Rd.
Added to my earlier comment there will according to the ‘One Network’ map be traffic lights part way along Nodes Rd for SGN until 6th July.
This is going to be a disaster – how long will it take for traffic to fill the silly little slip road that feeds Forest Road, particularly on a red light? This will then back up into the main lane, and then back across the ‘new’ junction into Medina Way and every other route off it, and so on – what fun!
Heaven forbid it should affect the isle of Wight festival. Bugger everyone else as long as the festival goers are happy
