A man who stole lager from a shop in Shanklin, before pushing a store worker into a parked car as she challenged him, is to be sentenced next month.
Terence Perkins, 38, of Orchardleigh Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and theft from a shop when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week.
Prosecuting, Lauren Stone told the court that on 20th August 2023, at around 09:55, Perkins entered The Co-Operative store on Regent Street in Shanklin. He was instantly recognised by workers at the store as someone who uses the supermarket.
Perkins went to the alcohol section of the store and picked up 2x 4-pack of Kronenburg, before heading to the exit, making no attempts to pay. Just some 10 minutes later, at around 10:05, Perkins picked up 3x 4-pack of Heineken, again exiting the store and making no attempts to pay for the goods.
A worker exited the store and questioned Perkins, asking him if he was going to pay for the goods, to which Perkins replied ‘no’.
The 38-year-old then proceeded to hold the alcohol above his head so that the worker could not take them. It was at this point that some of the cans of lager fell on the floor.
Perkins then pushed the worker with 2 hands into a car parked outside the store. The court heard how the worker suffered injuries and bruises to her arms as a result of the altercation.
On his criminal record, Perkins has a total of 4 offences against the person and was imprisoned for 24 weeks back in 2021 for an ABH offence.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick told the court that Perkins had made full and frank admissions in Police interviews.
Magistrates adjourned the case until 10th November. A pre-sentence report will be compiled before that hearing.

Instant imprisonment for such a shoddy person.
Why should shop workers be put at risk due to idiots.
It’s about time stores employed ex military personnel as
Security.
he needs to be made homeless, benefits stopped and no access to healthcare at all. when he commits a crime to be locked up to get a bed, food and warmth, then he should be chucked in a tiny locked room for 23 hours a day, no human contact, no play station, no TV and left there to rot, with only a tray of food put through a hatch a couple of times a day.
after six months, he should be asked – do you wish for this suffering to continue, or will you engage with adult services and abide by the law and be set free.
waste of taxpayers money.
Mass graves are the answer, and sodomy for offenders that would make Marquis de Sade blush.
I just want these people to suffer
Good grief, what idiotic garbage you are spouting. Fascism certainly seems to thrive on the IOW
You obviously haven’t a clue what fascism is.
we will send him to you to be housed and fed in your home then pedro.
he needs to be made to feel pain, to ensure that he feels what his victims are feeling.
