A Newport man who admitted numerous theft offences from a host of local businesses has been handed a year-long community order.
Thomas Mason, 29, of Staplers Road, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court having previously admitted 8 counts of theft from a shop.
Prosecuting, Lauren McConnell, told the court that between 13th September 2024 and 4th April 2025, Mason targeted 5 different establishments.

- £77 belonging to The Co-op in Sandown on 22nd January
- £662.53 belonging to Sainsbury’s in Newport on 22nd March
- £43.25 belonging to Morrisons in Newport on 4th April
The court heard how most of the goods were recovered. Goods totalling £143.07 were not recovered.
Sentencing the 29-year-old, who was last in court back in July 2023, District Judge Calloway handed Mason a 12-month community order with a 9-month alcohol treatment requirement and 90 hours of unpaid work attached.
Mason was ordered to pay compensation of £143.07.
Another pointless sentences given to a piece of thieving trash, bet it was laughing all the way from court and it will not be many weeks before it is back in court for another slap on the wrist.
