UPDATED: A man threatening to jump from the roof of a building in Ryde has sparked a road closure and a multi-agency emergency response this evening (Saturday).
West Street in the town has been closed from Arthur Street to Argyll Street following the discovery of a person threatening to jump from a rooftop to the ground below. The building is several floors high.
Police are speaking with the man to resolve the situation safely, however paramedics remain on standby. Several appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance at the scene including an aerial appliance, the service’s rescue tender and two other appliances.
Motorists should divert via Pellhurst Road or the High Street.
UPDATE @ 20:30 – The incident has now been concluded and the road reopened. It is understood the man was talked down by Police.
