33-year-old Karl Weller-Adams has been jailed for a string of offences including assaulting a woman so badly that she has required multiple surgeries.
Waller-Adams carried out the assault at an address in the Shanklin area on Sunday 29th November 2020 but the incident wasn’t reported to Police until 18th December when the victim, a woman in her 40s, found the courage to tell medical staff what had caused her injuries.
She had suffered 3 fractures to her jaw which required surgery. Her treatment is ongoing and she will require further surgery still.
Waller-Adams, of no fixed abode, was arrested and subsequently charged on 19th December with causing grievous bodily harm. He was then remanded in custody and has been on remand ever since.
Appearing at Isle of Wight Crown Court last Wednesday (10th March), he pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and was jailed for 36 months.
He was given an additional 2 months in prison for pleading guilty to an incident of harassment in the St John’s Hill area of Ryde between 9th August and 13th August 2020, and a further 4 months following an incident on Star Street in Ryde on 16th August, for which he pleaded guilty to the offences of theft, assault by beating and fraud at the Magistrates’ Court on 21st December 2020.
Detective Constable Mark Thomas has said:
“We take all allegations of domestic abuse seriously and work hard to provide a compassionate response to victims to ensure they are protected, and where possible bring offenders to justice.
“This was a particularly nasty assault and the victim is still receiving treatment for her injuries. In fear for her safety, she did not initially report this to police, but found the courage later down the line which we commend her for.
“Domestic abuse is often a hidden crime with incidents taking place behind closed doors without any witnesses. It takes a lot of courage to report these incidents to us, and we want anyone who is suffering from this type of abuse to find the confidence to come forward and speak to us.”
Anyone who is facing abuse or harm should call 999. If you’re not in a position to speak press 55 and controllers will know what to do.If you live on the Isle of Wight, you can also contact You First on 0800 234 6266.
With everything going on at the moment, this really does leave a bitter taste in everyone’s mouths. What a vile piece of work!
Why was my comment removed ?
It happens to some of us from time to time..
No idea.!! Perhaps it was irrelevant.
Perhaps the paper only likes positive comments in favour of the attacker.
I wouldn’t of thought so, why would anyone want to defend coweredly scumbags like Karl Weller-Adams??
This scum got away lightly this low sentence, if the general public had the right to dish out punishments I’m positive this scum would have a much higher sentence.
Quite. Those in authority seem so out of step with the rest of us…
They are So concerned with the ‘rights’ of the perpetrators of such crimes that the victims, who have to live with the after affects, are often overlooked.
I’m sure general population will be tipped off about this low life and he’ll get exactly what is coming too him.
The only thing lower than dog crap on the bottom of your shoe is women and child abusers.
If I knew what nick he was in I’d drop a note in myself.
Why was my comment removed moderator?
Three years for fracturing jaw in three place,. Is that what you call a punishment when he will be out in 18 months.
Let’s hope the victims family gives him a welcome home he deserves.
A lot of people wondering around who think that they are justified to just smack you in the face because the way you didn’t or did look at them. And the behavior starts at schools and they do nothing to prevent it. If a 14 year, in the school yard, punches another to the ground, nothing is done. And if the victim speaks out the attacker gives some lame story about being called a name and gets away with it. It’s time to stop calling bullying, bullying, it’s assault and should be treated as such. Then maybe, before it’s too late, the violent minority will learn that this behavior is not right.
Let’s hope he gets what’s coming to him in prison when he will be amongst men. Real men don’t like women beaters.
Real men don’t end up in prison for any reason, because real men lead upstanding lives with respect for others……but I agree with the gist of your comment.
Yes indeed. But unfortunately we have individuals in society who think it is ok to do this sort of thing. In an ideal world It wouldn’t exist.
Can I rectify this? It was reported by myself on the day of the offence and again a week later as I was concerned for her welfare (and his if I found him). I was told she needs to report it. He is vile and she had to leave her home and friends and will not be returning. I have lost a good friend because of one man’s sick mind.
Looks like he’d cry if you twatted him
Absolute vile scum what right has he got to lay a hand on a women rot scum bag
