Emergency services have this evening attended a road traffic collision in Newport.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Carisbrooke Road shortly before 16:20 after receiving reports that a male had been involved in a collision with a currently unknown vehicle.
Carisbrooke Road was closed to traffic in both directions between the junctions of Castle Road and Recreation Ground Road, near to a local veterinary surgery.
Island Echo understand a man, aged in his 40s, has received serious injuries as he was knocked to the ground while passing the car park to the vets.
Traffic was backed up in the area with Southern Vectis bus Routes 7 and 38 being diverted.
UPDATE @ 18:20 – Carisbrooke Road has reopened to traffic. The incident is not as serious as first feared by Police.
UPDATE @ 23:00 – Island Echo understand the injured man received a broken wrist and has been sedated this evening.
He is currently being treated at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
