Police have charged a 30-year-old man from Southsea with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a Police Community Support Officer sustained serious facial injuries in East Cowes last night (Saturday).
As first reported by Island Echo, several Police units responded into East Cowes shortly after 19:30 after the PCSO – a male in his 40s – was hit in the face whilst intervening in an altercation between a man and a woman. It is understood the officer activated an emergency call button.
The incident, which occurred outside the White Hart public house by Red Funnel’s East Cowes terminal, resulted in the PCSO sustaining injuries to his mouth. He was transferred to a hospital in Portsmouth and has undergone surgery.
Matthew Lowdon of Francis Avenue, Southsea has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has been bailed to appear in front of the Isle of Wight Maigstrates Court on Friday 2nd October.
