Following the tragic death of an innocent 10-year-old girl last year, Robert Blakely, 31 of The Broadway, Sandown has been charged with causing her death.
On 24th August 2012, Blakely was driving a Ford Puma along the A3020 Cowes Road at approximately 20:30 when he collided with a Subaru Jesty, in which 10-year-old Evey Staley was a rear-seat passenger. The Subaru was pulling out of a driveway.
Despite the best efforts of Doctors and paramedics, Evey was seriously injured and died in Southampton General Hospital the following day from a traumatic brain injury. She was described as a popular and strong-willed young girl.
Her 44-year-old father, Neal, and mother Penny, aged 41, both suffered life-threatening injuries and were treated at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. They both survived.
Mr Blakely was charged yesterday with causing death by driving without due care and attention whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit and will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 2nd April.
