A man who was caught carrying a knuckleduster in his trousers for his ‘own protection’ has been sentenced at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this week.
45-year-old Brian Bailey, previously of Clatterford Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon when he appeared before the court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, explained that Police located a metal knuckleduster in Bailey’s trousers whilst he was being searched for unrelated matters.
It’s known that Bailey was due to appear in court on 22nd February in relation to the possession of a Class B drug (cannabis), but he failed to show. A warrant was issued for his arrest and it was on 22nd March that he was detained in Union Street, Ryde.
Bailey, representing himself, told the court that he was carrying the weapon for his own protection as he was being abused in the street over a recent criminal investigation dating back to June last year.
Magistrates fined Brian Bailey £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs with a £35 surcharge. The weapon was ordered to be seized and destroyed.

The smug look on his face tells you that he doesn’t give a f^^k.
This is where the hand wringing do gooders, that worry about the rights of the criminal come unstuck. Someone like Mr Bailey, just laughs at them and uses their weak, pathetic, whiny, lefty, socialist hand wringing to his advantage.
The courts need to find out what Mr Bailey cares about the most and deprive him of it – that is the punishment he needs.
Take it you are not an Islander, Wighter has a t in it. Why is it people like you think there are only right wing and left wing supporters and all the left are whiny and socialist?
because the left is the place that all the whiny socialists hang about – . Guess you are one of these whiny apologists then simon.
And a bunch of Snowflakes…
Slap slap don’t do it again! Pathetic punishment.
And I thought he was just pleased to see me…….

cloves are too small to be a weapon but they do make things taste good.
