UPDATED: A 21-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
The alleged incident is said to have occurred within the boundary of Newport Cemetery next to Newport Quay at around 02:00.
The area has been cordoned off near to Jubilee Stores and police remain on the scene.
UPDATE @ 11:50 – Forensic officers have arrived at the scene to gather evidence from the area. The small section of the cemetery remains cordoned off whilst investigations continue.
UPDATE FRIDAY: Police have this morning confirmed that a 21-year-old man has been bailed until 31st July pending further enquiries.
