A 25-year-old man, initially reported to be the victim of an assault by 3 men, has himself been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
Police were called at around 19:40 last night (Sunday) to reports that a man had been assaulted by 3 other men near The Foyer on George Street, Ryde.
It is said the male was hit with an ‘item’.
Officers responded to central Ryde on blue lights and sirens, but did not locate the victim – nor the trio of suspects.
2 hours later, at around 21:30, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service was alerted to a report of a male, with injuries, located at an address on Newport Street.
Police responded and used a battering ram – known as the big red key – to force entry into the property, but no one was inside.
The injured male was later located on Union Street and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
His injuries are said to be minor.
In a twist, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the alleged victim has since been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a knife.
He remains in custody at this time as enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.
