Detectives have launched an investigation into the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in Newport over the weekend.
It was late on Saturday night (7th June) that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report that the teenager had been sexually assaulted at an address in Newport.
Police have been maintaining a scene guard at the location of the alleged rape since, as enquiries continue.
It has been confirmed that a 20-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of rape and stalking.
He was taken into custody for questioning but has since been bailed until 8th September.
The victim is being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Somebody somewhere feels its ok for this guy to be mingling with the rest of the population??? Whilst I don’t disagree with “innocent until proven guilty” surely the answer would be to cut the red tape and get this investigation / court case wrapped before taking a risk in terms of letting the guy out on bail? After all, if he was capable of rape – yes I said if so I’m not condemning him, surely being let go to be free to do it again would be some kind of green light in his mind? Our courts and police need a good shake up.
