A main road in Ryde was closed yesterday evening (Friday) after a small fire broke out on an apartment window above a popular cafe.
Two pumping applianes from Ryde and an aerial ladder platform from Newport were called to the scene in Union Street shortly after 19:00 to reports of sash window on fire in a flat above Cafe Coco, opposite the town’s Blacksheep Bar.
Police enforced a road closure while firefighters tackled and investigated the fire, which is understood to have caused minimal damage.
Motorists, including Southern Vectis buses, were diverted via St Thomas’ Street before the road was reopened around 21:00.
No persons were injured in the incident.
