Reports of a low flying aircraft in Ventnor prompted a search of the area earlier this evening (Saturday) amid fears an aeroplane had ditched into the sea.
Members of the public reported to HM Coastguard seeing an unidentified aircraft flying at unusually low levels off of the Ventnor coastline at around 16:30. With the possibility of a ditching into the sea, Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was tasked to conduct an aerial search to look for any possible debris.
Working from the shore, Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team also conducted a search out to sea, however thankfully no signs were found of any incident occurring.
Both search crews were stood down at around 17:35, with the alert being treated as a good intent call.
