McDonalds is set to open a drive-thru restaurant on St George’s Way in Newport, it has been confirmed.
The fast food giant has applied to the Isle of Wight Council for planning permission to install signage relating to the development on the grounds of St George’s Park – the former home of Newport Football Club.
Islanders are certainly set to be lovin’ it as the county town of the Isle of Wight currently only has an eat-in McDonalds on St James’ Street. The new out-of-town restaurant will add an element of ease for passing motorists. A drive-thru McDonalds already operates on Brading Road in Ryde.
The new McDonalds will sit on the edge of the new retail development, closest to the Asda Roundabout – clearly visible from the roadside. It will be accessed by the new entrance off Godric Road.
Rather uniquely, the new restaurant looks set to include an outdoor children’s play area.
An opening date is yet to be set.
