The Women’s Great Britain Flag Football team, captained by Lottie Laidler from Ryde, reached the final of the European Flag Football Championships.
10 women’s teams competed in the event, which took place in Israel earlier this month. The British team won all but 1 game in their journey to the final, where they lost out to Spain by just a couple of points in a very close match.
Lottie, who is supported by Wightlink through the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme, said:
“It was a great honour to captain the Great Britain defence in this international tournament. The team performed amazingly throughout the championships and although disappointed not to win, are proud to have done so well amongst a strong field of competition and are very happy to have come away with second place.
“The championships were an opportunity for me to develop as a player and it was a great experience ahead of the Flag Football World Championships next year.”
The British Team have qualified for the World Championships for the first time in the team’s history. The tournament will take place in Denmark next year.
