A lorry driver from the Isle of Wight has avoided being sent to prison despite a haul of indecent images of children being found on his computer – 30 years after he was jailed for 2 indecent assaults.
73-year-old Raymond Johnson, who lives with his supportive wife in Wootton High Street but previously lived in Lake, has been given a 21-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years, for making indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images of children.
Johnson admitted the charges against him following a Police investigation which uncovered hundreds of images of children collected over a 4 year period.
The Isle of Wight Crown Court heard that the ‘deeply remorseful’ paedophile had previously been jailed – twice – in the early 1990s for indecent assault. The court also heard how Johnson has had to move home as a result of the criminal case against him and that his wife is standing by him.
Raymond Johnson must pay £2,500 costs and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years, as well as completing 30 days of rehabilitation and sticking to the conditions of a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

The police and the courts are entirely separate entities. The police did do their job by gathering evidence, charging him, and referring it to the CPS for trial. You can’t blame the police for the judgement and sentencing made by the courts and the judge presiding over the trial. The fact that it even got to trial in the first place tells you that the police did indeed do all in their available power to get him prosecuted for it, despite all obstacles they would have faced in doing so.
Another dirty perv on the island, why do their families still support them?.
