The elderly victim of an accidental lorry collision in Binstead earlier this month has sadly died as a result of his injuries.
Mr James Cannell, 97, is believed to have suffered a medical episode while walking on the pavement, before collapsing and falling into the path of an oncoming John Lewis 7.5t delivery lorry.
As reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the scene of the road traffic collision between the junctions of Chapel Road and Arnold Road on Binstead Hill shortly after 11:30 on 18th July.
Mr Cannell was taken by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the hospital’s medical team, Mr Cannell passed away on Friday evening.
In a statement issued today, Mr Cannell’s family have said:
“James was a talented musician who worked and played in the band on numerous P&O Cruise liners for over 20 years.
“He will be sorely missed.”
