smallbrooklorryrtcUPDATE: Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the Rescue Tender from Newport Fire Station are this afternoon attending a serious road traffic collision at Smallbrook on the outskirts of Ryde.

A 7.5t Hunts food delivery lorry is believed to have careered into the back of a currently unknown blue car, before coming to rest in a hedge lining the road.

smallbrooklorryrtc2Initial reports suggested that persons were trapped inside the vehicle, however this is thankfully not the case. At least one person is believed to have been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance with minor injuries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as traffic begins to back up. Ashey Road is closed with the junction of Rosemary Lane.

UPDATE: Southern Vectis’s Downs Breezer is currently diverting via Smallbrook Lane and Oakfield while the incident is dealt with.

UPDATED @ 17:15 – The road has now reopened and traffic is once again flowing freely in the area.
