The main road in and out of East Cowes has been closed this morning (Thursday), resulting in delays around the town.
York Avenue has been closed from Whippingham Roundabout to New Barn Road with all traffic being diverted via Beatrice Avenue.
A number of parked cars are slowing the progress of motorists, which includes all those heading to and from the Red Funnel ferry.
The closure is necessary to allow the safe completion of the carriageway reconstruction works and to enable Southern Water to repair a brick sewer.
Southern Vectis Route 5 buses are diverting via Saunders Way, Beatrice Avenue, Victoria Grove and Adelaide Grove to resume normal route. The diversion is operating in both directions.
