More than 30 Isle of Wight business people joined a festive Rubbish Networking clean-up in Newport on Thursday (11th December), collecting over 15 bags of rubbish.
The community clean-up was organised by NOSY Creative Agency and WRS as part of an ongoing effort to combine networking with local environmental action.
Waste collection equipment and waste disposal were arranged by Island firm Betapak, enabling the clean-up to run smoothly and safely during one of the busiest weeks of the year.
Participants included business owners, local professionals and first-time attendees, many wearing Christmas jumpers and festive hats. After the clean-up, attendees were welcomed to NOSY’s new Greys Walk office for mulled wine and mince pies provided by Scarrots Lane Bakery.
Sophie Jackson, Chief Operating Officer at WRS, said:
“Rubbish Networking is a simple way to combine community action with genuine connection. It was great to see so many people turn up, get stuck in and enjoy the afternoon together.”

“Events like this work because they’re informal and accessible. People can show up, have a chat and make a small but real difference to the place we all share.”

Rubbish Networking began as a straightforward idea to make community action more approachable and to give people space to connect without the formality of typical business events. More than 15 clean-ups have been held so far, and this festive edition continued that same spirit, with conversations happening as naturally as the clean-up itself.
Organisers plan to continue hosting Rubbish Networking sessions into 2026, encouraging more local organisations to take part and help keep the Isle of Wight’s shared spaces cleaner and more enjoyable for everyone.
