The Mayor of Ryde, Councillor Michael Lilley, recently presented a certificate of recognition to Ryde Beach Lifeguards for their outstanding contribution to the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The recognition has come from Ryde Town Council, with Mayor Lilley presenting the certificate to Head Lifeguard, Jacon.
Ryde Beach Lifeguards were one of only a few beach safety services in the UK that still operated during the pandemic. Although there was a lot of work behind the scenes to make this happen, Waterside Community Trust – which runs the lifeguard service – felt that it was of the utmost importance to still provide the service at Ryde.
The beaches were extremely busy in 2020 and again in 2021 resulting in the team performing many more rescues and first aid treatments than normal.
