LIFEBOAT’S ASSISTANCE NOT NEEDED FOR OLIVER

Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat ‘Norman Harvey’ launched on service at just before 14:00 this afternoon (Thursday) to aid a 7m angling boat called ‘Oliver’.

Solent Coastguard requested the volunteer crew to launch the D-class lifeboat after it was reported by the only person on board the casualty vessel that the engine had broken down around a mile and a half South East of Bembridge.

The Norman Harvey, with the station mechanic onboard, quickly located the angling boat, however, before the mechanic was able to transfer to the vessel, the owner tried to start the engine again one last time and to his surprise it promptly burst back into life!

After a quick check and with everyone happy that ‘Oliver’ would make it safely back to Southsea Marina without further assistance, the Norman Harvey returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 14:40.
