Two Island lifeboat stations came to the aid of a yacht that ran aground near to Gurnard Ledge this lunchtime.
Fifteen people are believed to have been on the 22-metre long ‘Challenger III’ yacht at the time of the incident, which saw Cowes RNLI and Yarmouth RNLI race to their aid.
Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat launched shortly after midday after Solent Coastguard received reports that the yacht had come into difficulty just off of Gurnard near Cowes. Solent Coastguard also tasked the volunteer Cowes RNLI lifeboat to the scene to assist their counterpart.
The yacht, owned by the Tall Ships Youth Trust, was towed to safety by Yarmouth’s ALB as the tide rose.
