This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

• Kaine Cooper, 28, of High Street, Ryde – admitted nine counts of shop theft across June to August 2025 from Sainsbury’s and the Co-op, stealing items including beer, sandwiches, wine, chicken, and ice cream valued between £10 and £38.30. He was given a community order lasting until October 2026 with 20 rehabilitation days and ordered to pay full compensation for each offence, totalling over £220.
• Nick Fotheringham, 22, of George Street, Ryde – caused criminal damage to property belonging to Southern Housing in November 2024. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation.
• Ryan Stevens, 28, of York Road, Sandown – drove while over the legal alcohol limit in Shanklin in September 2025. He was fined £400, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £160 surcharge, and disqualified from driving for 20 months, reduced by 20 weeks upon completion of a drink-driving course.
• Timothy Saunders, 30, of Green Street, Ryde – admitted three counts of shop theft in Ryde and Newport between December 2024 and May 2025, stealing vapes and meat worth up to £70. He received a community order with 80 hours of unpaid work and was ordered to pay full compensation for each offence.
• Freya Jones, 37, of Laceys Lane, Niton – admitted nine counts of shop theft between January and July 2025 in Ventnor and Sandown, stealing food, alcohol, and other items, mostly from the Co-op and Tesco. She was also sentenced for breaching a suspended sentence. She was ordered to pay compensation for each theft, with amounts ranging from £3.25 to £42.
• Charly Hill, 48, of Queens Court, East Cowes – admitted possession of cocaine, drug driving, and possession of an offensive weapon (a wooden truncheon) on the same day in February 2025. He was given a community order with 20 rehabilitation days, disqualified from driving for 17 months, fined £120, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge, and ordered to forfeit the drugs and weapon for destruction.
• Joshua Green, 36, of Yarborough Road, East Cowes – admitted five thefts from shops including Boots, TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer, and Mountain Warehouse between June and July 2025, and three offences of using threatening or abusive behaviour with intent to cause harassment or distress. He was given a community order with alcohol treatment for 12 months and 20 rehabilitation days. He was ordered to pay compensation, including £50 to one victim.
• Jan Almar Smith, 56, of Atherley Road, Shanklin – admitted using a handheld mobile phone while driving and separately running a red light in July 2025. He was fined £256, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £102 surcharge, and had six penalty points added to his licence.
