This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 3rd April – Friday 14th April 2023
• Darren Prouten, 40, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 27 weeks in custody for a number of offences including 2 counts of driving whilst disqualified, 2 counts of using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third-party insurance, 1 count of theft from a motor vehicle and 3 counts of theft from a shop. He was also handed a 903 driving ban extension and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
The court noted Prouten is a significant and persistent offender no regard for Court orders.
• Andrew Downard, 28, care of The Hollows, Newport pleaded guilty to 4 counts of criminal damage. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence and ordered to pay £2100 compensation.
• James Byrne, 27, of Marlborough Road, Ryde was found guilty of possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place, namely a large sheath knife. He was handed a 3-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £650 costs with a £154 surcharge.
• Charlie Southcott, 26, of Newport Road in Cowes, pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was banned from driving for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a fine of £120, costs of £85 and a surcharge fee of £48.
• David Bradshaw, 67, of Dolcroft Road in Rookley, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements (sex offender). He was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. He was ordered to pay costs of £300 and a £154 surcharge fee.
• Shaun Daly, 37, of Linden Road in Newport, pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit through drugs (cannabis). He was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay an £120 fine, £85 costs and a £48 surcharge fee.
• Josef Wilkins, 22, of Pellhurst Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary other than dwelling with intent, possession of a knife in a public place, using threatening language or behaviour to cause fear of/provoke lawful violence and racially aggravated harassment by words. He was issued a new 18-month order with 30 rehabilitation days and a 9 month alcohol treatment requirement attached and ordered to pay compensation of £1,700.
• Jane Hill, 39, of Acorn Gardens in East Cowes, pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker, failing to answer to bail and failing to surrender to court. Hill was sentenced to a 2-year community with 30 rehabilitation activity days attached. She was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £114 surcharge, £85 costs and £50 compensation.
Warrants issued
• Simon Wheeler, 56, of Albany Road in East Cowes for use threatening words/behaviour to cause harrassment alarm or distress, fail to surrender to police/bail and 2x harassment – breach of a restraining order.
