This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

Monday 24th March – Friday 28th March 2024
• Jamie Matlock, 43, of Hope Mead Newchurch pleaded guilty to 4x theft from a shop and receiving stolen goods. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence.
• Daniel Cook, 36, of Cameron Close, Newport pleaded guilty to drink driving (70). He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £115 and ordered to pay a £46 surcharge.
• John Pearson, 56, of Purdy Road, Newport pleaded guilty to drink driving (68). He was banned from driving for 22 months, fined £461 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £184 surcharge.
• Michael Murphy, 56, of Roud pleaded guilty to drink driving (84). He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £346 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £138 surcharge.
• Jack Cowan, 32, of Bagwich Lane, Godshill pleaded guilty to possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place and using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of/provoke violence. He was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, with 20 rehabilitation days attached. He was ordered to pay £85 costs with a £154 surcharge and £300 compensation.
• Saif Hussain, 30, of HMP Parc pleaded guilty to 2x assault by beating of an emergency worker. He was handed a 16-week custodial sentence, concurrent. His earliest release date is 2031.
• Theo Lewis, 31, of Hedingham Grove, Birmingham pleaded guilty to drug driving (cannabis). He was banned form driving for 14 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £48 surcharge.
