LATEST CASES AT THE ISLE OF WIGHT MAGISTRATES COURT (20TH OCTOBER – 24TH OCTOBER)

• Tyson Betts, 38, of The Rogers, Shanklin – assaulted Amanda Kervan by beating her on multiple occasions in Newport. He received a community order with 90 days of alcohol treatment and up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity. A restraining order was imposed until 21 October 2027 prohibiting contact with the victim and access to several locations. A fine of £162, costs of £400, and a £114 surcharge were imposed.

• Billy Haylor, 28, of Newport Road, Cowes – committed two fraud offences by using a bank card not belonging to the victim and harassed her over a period of weeks. He was sentenced to a community order with up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity and fined £120, with £85 costs.

• Dawn O’Neill, 51, of Josephs Way, Shanklin – drove without insurance and separately while over the legal limit for cannabis in her blood in Sandown. She was fined £120, disqualified from driving for 15 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge. Her driving record was endorsed.

• Leon Carr, 45, of Boniface Court, Ventnor – entered a Newport premises in breach of a closure notice. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £85 costs.

• Gerald Omahony, 48, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin – drove in Shanklin with cocaine metabolite in his blood over the legal limit. He was disqualified for 36 months, fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 costs.

• Johnathan Weaver, 41, of Avenue Road, Sandown – trespassed onto railway property at Ryde Esplanade Station and separately possessed a kitchen knife at the same location. He received a community order with 12 months of alcohol treatment and up to 35 days of rehabilitation activity, was fined £120, and deprived of the knife. £85 costs were imposed.

• Malcolm Mattin, 72, of no fixed abode, Ryde – breached bail conditions on multiple occasions. These breaches were ultimately withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service and no sentence was imposed.

• Aaran Wood, 33, of The Brambles, Apse Heath, Sandown – was sentenced for a spree of shop thefts, threatening behaviour, knife possession and breaching a closure order. He received a custodial sentence totalling 42 weeks for possessing two knives and breaching a suspended sentence. He was also ordered to pay compensation totalling £72.27 across nine separate thefts, and a knife was ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

• Daniel Kilshaw, 44, of Fellowship House, Ryde – committed three shop thefts in Newport. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £26.85 compensation.

• Amber Gagen, 26, of Fellowship House, Ryde – stole items worth £3.70 from Tesco in Newport. She was fined £80 and ordered to pay compensation of £3.70.

• David Marsh, 35, of Warwick Street, Ryde – failed to attend a drugs assessment after testing positive for cocaine and was separately found in possession of the drug. He was fined £150 and the drugs were forfeited and destroyed.

• Charlie Smith, 19, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin – drove without insurance in Sandown. He was fined £80, had his driving licence endorsed with six points, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge.

• Jamie Wright, 28, of Wellesley Way, Newport – drove while over the legal cannabis limit. He was disqualified for 40 months and received a community order with 150 hours of unpaid work and up to 25 days of rehabilitation activity. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.

• Harry White, 24, of HMP Woodhill – assaulted a prison officer and caused criminal damage while in custody. He was sentenced to four weeks in prison for the assault. No compensation was ordered due to his circumstances.

• Liam Verstraeten, 57, of Carisbrooke High Street, Newport – drove without wearing a seatbelt in Wootton. He was fined £146 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £58 surcharge.
