This is your weekly round-up of some of the latest court cases heard at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

• Alex Graham, 27, of Horsebridge Hill, Newport – sent a grossly offensive or menacing voice message via a public electronic communications network. He was given a 12-month community order with 15 days of rehabilitation activity and 100 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
• Wasan Smith, 43, of School Street, Ryde – drove a vehicle while over the legal drug-drive limit. He was fined £120, disqualified from driving for 12 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
• Timothy Young, 57, of Leigh Road, Eastleigh – sentenced for multiple shop thefts and breaches of a criminal behaviour order between 3 and 5 November 2025. He was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for each breach, and two weeks for each shop theft, all to run concurrently. The offences were deemed so serious that only custody was appropriate due to their nature and his previous convictions.
• Thomas Cornell, 40, of Whitcombe Road, Newport (residing at a Carisbrooke Priory Trust address) – jointly stole crates of beer and food items worth £34.30 from Co-op in Shanklin on 31 August 2025, and again stole two crates of beer worth £22 on 30 August 2025. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £22 in compensation and £85 costs.
• Joshua Green, 36, of Yarborough Road, East Cowes – jointly stole alcohol and food worth £112.95 from Waitrose in East Cowes. He was ordered to pay £62 in compensation.
• David Dunford, 44, of Sandown Road, Shanklin – burgled Boots Pharmacy in Sandown, stealing prescription medications worth £139.71. He received a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and was ordered to pay £500 in compensation.
• Hannah Spicer, 25, of Tayberry Close, Newport – drove a vehicle while over the drink-drive limit. She was fined £450, disqualified for 20 months (reducible by completing a course), and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £180 surcharge.
• Dean Raynor, 46, of Trafalgar Road, Newport – stole six tubs of ice cream worth £34.86 from Co-op in Sandown. He received a six-month conditional discharge and must pay £34.86 in compensation, £85 costs and a £26 surcharge.
• Jamie Scott, 22, of Mitchells Road, Ryde – drove at 69mph in a 40mph zone on Lushington Hill. He was fined £339, received six penalty points, and must pay £85 costs and a £136 surcharge.
• Daniel Kilshaw, 44, of Green Street, Ryde – jointly stole meat and alcohol from Asda in Newport. He was ordered to pay £30 in compensation.
• Reece Whelan, 35, of Manor Road, Sandown – breached a restraining order by repeatedly contacting a woman in Essex. He received a 12-month community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activity and 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £200 costs. A restraining order remains in place until 11 November 2027.
• Phillip Brown, 60, of Hope Mead, Newchurch – stole tools and furnishings worth £275.82 from B&Q in Newport on 3 September 2025 and a BBQ and other items worth £200 on 7 May 2025. For the latter offence, he was fined £80 and ordered to pay £200 compensation, £85 costs and a £32 surcharge.
• Amber Banham-Gage, 23, of Barton Road, Newport – jointly stole alcohol and food worth £112.95 from Waitrose in East Cowes. She was ordered to pay £62 in compensation.
• Luke Shier, 43, of West View, Middleton – drove while over the drink-drive limit in Newport. He was fined £207, disqualified for 46 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £83 surcharge.
• Benjamin Weekes, 43, of Vine View, Freshwater – assaulted a woman in Yarmouth. He was fined £162 and ordered to pay £650 costs and a £65 surcharge. A restraining order was imposed prohibiting contact with the victim and entry into a specific area until 11 November 2027.
• Kaylum Dunkling, 24, of Robin Hood Street, Newport – drove while over the drug-drive limit. He was fined £162, disqualified from driving for 12 months, and ordered to pay £100 costs and a £65 surcharge.
• Joseph Brugess, of Woodbine Close, was fined £207 for the commission of a further offence during the operational period of a suspended sentence, namely for wounding without intent. Magistrates decided it unjust to activate the order considering some compliance and the circumstances of the new offence.
• George Bridi was ordered to pay costs of £2,310 to the Isle of Wight Council after his appeal against the refusal of a hackney carriage renewal by the local authority was refused by the court.

So one person stole £54 of drink from the co-op in Shanklin and was ordered to pay £22 in compensation but the fine and costs came to over £200, so no justice for the co-op but the court done well.
Amber again!! Damn. Also…how expensive is ice cream these days!!
